Those proxies all point the same way. Adult is where generative media went first, and it did not stay in one format. The short answer

Deepfake video is still almost entirely porn. Home Security Heroes counted 95,820 deepfake videos online in 2023 — a 550% jump from 2019. 98% of those videos were pornographic. 99% of the people in the porn deepfakes were women. 94% of faces were from entertainment (actors, singers, influencers, athletes). That 2023 census is still the last public, cited inventory. Sensity’s 2019 baseline was already 96% pornographic.

The mass-market door in 2024–2026 is not a 4K swap of a celebrity. It is undress. Graphika told the Financial Times that nudify / undressing sites took more than 32 million visits globally in September 2024. TIME, citing an earlier Graphika cut, had 24 million visitors in September 2023. CBS’s 60 Minutes cited Graphika putting Clothoff above 3 million visits in a month. US Google search for “nudify” sits at about 60,500 a month. “Deepfake porn” is 90,500. “AI girlfriend” is 135,000. Money is smaller than the scare quotes. Persistence Market Research puts digital adult content at about $70.3 billion in 2026. Research and Markets puts the AI girlfriend-app slice at about $2.91 billion in 2026. That is a few percent of digital adult, not a replacement of Pornhub. The growth is in new formats — chat, generate, live — sitting next to camera porn, not deleting it.

Deepfake porn is still most of “deepfake”

When people type deepfake porn they mean a face pasted onto a sex clip. The 2017 Reddit thread that named the genre was exactly that: celebrity faces, porn bodies, no consent. Sensity (then Deeptrace) measured 14,678 deepfake videos in 2019 and said 96% were pornographic. Home Security Heroes’ 2023 recensus is the one journalists still quote:

Two footnotes matter. First: fraud deepfakes (voice clones, CEO scams) grew faster as a category of crime, which is why 2025–2026 “deepfake statistics” roundups mix porn and KYC. The video pile on the open web is still porn. Second: dedicated swap sites hold most of that pile. Seven of the top ten mainstream porn sites also host swaps, but they are the minority of deepfake-porn inventory.

US search for “deepfake porn” averaged 90,500 monthly queries in the year to July 2026, with a January spike to 135,000. “Deepfake” itself is 74,000. Those queries are not “how do I detect a politician.” They track the porn aisle.

Generative AI porn is a different machine

Face-swap needs a source face and a target clip. Generative porn does not. You type a prompt. You get a still, a GIF, or a short video of a person who never sat in a studio. PornWorks, Promptchan, SoulGen, CreatePorn, FuckGen, FreeMode — this is the studio aisle on XXXFuel, not the girlfriend aisle.

Google Ads hides volume for “ai porn” and “ai porn generator” even when you ask for adult keywords. That is a measurement hole, not proof the demand is small. Congruence Market Insights floated a forecast that AI-driven avatars and virtual influencers would be 15% of new adult content releases by 2025. Treat that as a vendor forecast, not a census. What we can see without a TAM slide: every serious NSFW studio now ships image + video + swap in one checkout, and the cheap packs start at a dollar.

Undress / nudify is the mass-market door

Clothes-removers sit between swap and generate. You upload a real photo. The model invents a nude. Graphika’s public cuts are the best traffic numbers we have:

• September 2024 — more than 32 million visits globally (Graphika, via the Financial Times).

US search for “nudify” is a flat 60,500 a month through 2026. That is not a meme query. It is a product category. Companions, group chat, and live AI cams

If you only watch deepfake stats, you miss where the subscriptions went. AI girlfriend is the largest clean search we can score: 135,000 US monthly queries, low paid competition. Match’s Singles in America 2025 put 16% of US singles using AI as a romantic companion and 26% using AI to help with dating. Pew, asking all adults, got 4% using chatbots for companionship. Those are different denominators. Do not smash them.

How big is this versus the rest of porn?

Digital adult content is estimated at $70.3 billion in 2026, headed to $201.1 billion by 2033 (Persistence Market Research, 16.2% CAGR). Broader “adult entertainment” prints anywhere from $73 billion to $190 billion+ depending on whether the analyst folds in clubs, toys, and live cams. iBISWorld’s US porn-sites line is a tight $1.3 billion and ignores OnlyFans-scale creator platforms. Pick the denominator before you quote a share.
